Victor Hardy-Fortin, a student at Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles, won second place in the Science, on tourne!

Victor Hardy-Fortin, a student at the Gaspé campus, ranks second in the 30th edition of the national final of the Science, on tourne! He has 26,731 points in this competition, which took place on May 5 and 6 at Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup.

In addition to his second place, Victor wins the Award of Merit, worth $1,000. This distinction rewards the team that has distinguished itself the most by performance, ingenuity, design, and the application of eco-responsible principles in the construction of its machine, as well as by the oral and written presentation it has made of it. This prize was awarded by the Fédération des Cégeps.

Produced by the Physical Sciences Demonstration Center, attached to Cégep Garneau, the event welcomed more than 70 students from 24 colleges across Quebec. This year’s challenge, “Draw a log!” “, consisted in building a machine capable of recovering three logs of wood as far as possible thanks to the energy contained in rubber bands.

Victor Hardy-Fortin, with his machine called “Le Pêcheur”, took up the challenge with elegance and ingenuity. Made essentially of wood, this device, which looks like a fishing boat, surprised the judges with its simplicity and efficiency.

The Science, on tourne! aims to foster in the college community as well as in the public a better understanding of the different aspects of science and technology in a broader perspective of development of scientific culture.

The Cégep would also like to acknowledge the participation of the team from the Carleton-sur-Mer campus, made up of Florence and Ève, who ranked fourteenth.
