The three campuses of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles to host science events

Once again this year, the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles will be hosting a series of student scientific exhibitions across its three campuses. The public is invited to discover these projects, which showcase the creativity, rigour and commitment of our students. The exhibitions offer graduating students the opportunity to present integrative projects designed to address real-world challenges identified by local organisations, businesses, and citizens.

Gaspé Campus: April 30, 2026

On 30 April, from 9.00 am to 11.30 am, the Gaspé campus will host the second edition of its Science Fair. The event will kick off with a keynote titled L’incroyable voyage de la recherche scientifique vers l’innovation (The incredible journey from scientific research to innovation) by Jacopo Profili, a lecturer at the Université du Québec at Rimouski (UQAR). Next, students from the Natural Science program will present the results of research conducted with the support of several local partners, including the CIRADD, the Direction régionale de la santé publique Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, UQAR, the Régie intermunicipale de traitement des matières résiduelles de la Gaspésie and the O’Dwyer Distillery. The event will also showcase projects carried out as part of the Recherche-études (Research-Studies) option. Representatives from the college technology transfer centres, the UQAR, Forillon National Park and the Gaspésie Council for the Environment will also be on-site. The event is sponsored by the Pôle en enseignement supérieur Gaspésie‒Îles-de-la-Madeleine, a key partner in the success of this initiative. It will be held at Café Chez Oscar, where the public will have free access to the booths.

Îles-de-la-Madeleine Campus: May 7, 2026

At the Îles-de-la-Madeleine campus, students from the Natural Science and Social Science programs carry on the tradition of presenting their capstone projects, which focus on local issues. Many of these works include laboratory experiments, analyses carried out in collaboration with regional partners, or practical initiatives related to the topic under study. Thank you to the UQAR Institute of Marine Sciences, CERMIM and the Fonds de recherche du Québec.

The results will be presented on May 7, 2026, from 4 pm to 7 pm, in the cafeteria and the student lounge. Visitors will have the opportunity to look at scientific posters and learn more about the completed projects.

Distance learning from the Îles-de-la-Madeleine

A student enrolled in the distance-learning program of the Faculty of Social Science will present her project at the École des pêches et de l’aquaculture du Québec. This initiative illustrates the program’s ability to provide a comprehensive student experience, regardless of the learning format.

Carleton-sur-Mer Campus: May 13, 2026

The 20th edition of the science fair will take place on 13 May, from 1 pm to 4 pm, in the sports centre gym of the Carleton-sur-Mer campus. Teams from the Natural Science and Social Science programs will present their projects, many of which were carried out as part of the CIRADD community support module, in collaboration with various local partners. A stand dedicated to the Research-Studies option will also be open to visitors.

Thank you to our project partners: HMC constructions, Èst Éco-cabines, clinique de physiothérapie Amplitude, École des pêches et de l’aquaculture du Québec, Unité régionale loisir et sport Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Centre de recherche en patrimoine vivant (CERPAV), Horizon services de santé en plein air and MRC Avignon.
