Dojo to open on Gaspé campus

The Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles is starting construction on the very first dojo in the La Côte-de-Gaspé RCM at the Marcel-Bujold Sports Centre, with an estimated cost of $384,000. This new facility will meet the needs of the Police Techniques programme and will provide an additional community service to the people of Gaspé starting in the fall of 2026.

Located on the second floor of the sports pavilion, the dojo will be used for practical training in selected second- and third-year Police Techniques courses. The space will also serve as a venue for activities such as gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics and martial arts. Indeed, the Kumite Kan and Shotokan karate clubs, as well as the Judo-Tech judo club, are backing the project. Currently, many martial arts enthusiasts in the region do not have access to a dedicated place to train.

The launch of the Police Techniques programme at the Gaspé campus is accompanied by a series of investments, including this one. “The dojo will welcome outside clubs for their training sessions, events and competitions. This new facility, set up for Police Techniques students, will diversify the range of sporting activities in the region and open up martial arts to the wider public,” explains Stéphane Côté, Director of the Gaspé campus.

The project is being carried out with the support of the La Côte-de-Gaspé RCM and the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine regional recreation and sports unit. (URLS GÎM)
